Liofyllo Social Cooperative Enterprise

Liofyllo is an idiom to say olive leaf in the Greek language. The Social Cooperative Enterprise, in harmony with the principles of the circular economy, creates a novel eco-friendly material (International evaluation from WIPO- Assessment of the international patent  copyright of member states) from the untapped olive leaves and bio-based or/and biodegradable adhesives.

Its mission is to manage mostly the biomass of the olive leaves that is discarded during the production process of olive oil and replace materials which are not environmentally friendly (e.g. wooden panels, plastics, rocks, etc). This new material is used for a wide variety of constructions, artworks, products and objects in order to protect the environment and promote the Mediterranean and, in particular, the Greek culture. Until now, Liofyllo produces the Welia (as wooden panels) and Marelia (as tiles and marble) panels. In addition, it processes panels that are destroyed during the production and reuses them as raw material to create unique pieces of art. The products work as special souvenirs, awards, memorabilia and works of art.

By transforming olive leaves traditionally treated as agricultural waste into eco-friendly materials, Liofyllo demonstrates how creativity and environmental responsibility can drive impactful, scalable change. Its innovative practices and educational initiatives align directly with the project’s mission to empower young people through knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to strengthen their capacity for advocacy on global issues such as Official Development Assistance (ODA).

The organisation has substantial experience in designing and delivering specialised training programmes and interactive workshops that promote ecological awareness, green entrepreneurship and social innovation. These activities are geared particularly toward young people, including those from marginalised backgrounds, offering hands-on learning opportunities that encourage active citizenship and sustainable behaviour. Liofyllo has also produced educational materials tailored to diverse audiences such as manuals on green innovation and sustainability for youth, women in rural areas and educators demonstrating its ability to create accessible and engaging resources. This expertise will significantly support the development of training programmes, advocacy guides and campaign templates within the project.

In addition to its educational activities, Liofyllo has actively participated in numerous Erasmus+ projects and international collaborations related to youth empowerment, environmental sustainability and civic engagement.

Finally, Liofyllo’s team consists of highly skilled professionals whose diverse backgrounds and expertise in green innovation, sustainability, education and youth empowerment are fully aligned with the aims of this project. Their collective experience ensures that Liofyllo will make a strong and valuable contribution to the project’s overall success.
